Once settled
in, the Benningon area provides a variety of interesting
sights and pastimes. History buffs can relive the Revolutionary Army's
1777
victory over British Troops at the 306-foot Bennington
Battle Monument, or
visit the Old First Church where those
who fell in the battle as well as the
poet Robert Frost are buried. Nearby,
in the Bennington Museum, a fine
collection of Grandma Moses paintings capture
the rustic charm of rural New
England, and Norman Rockwell's
art is on display a few miles down the road
in Arlington.
While hikers wend their way over the Heritage Trail past a covered bridge
or a sugarmaple house, othersmay go farther afield by car along the Equinox
Skyline Drive to the top of Equinox Mountain for the breathtaking
views.
The Vermonter is a link in the New England Antique Trail, and collectors
can
lose themselves for hours amound the many shops offering antiques and
local crafts.
The calendar is filled with delightful local events, Bennington's spring
Mayfest, the annual Museum Antique Show weekend, craft fairs and the
Classic
Car Show in September. September and October also bring the best
of Fall Foliage, when Vermont's countryside is ablaze with color. For
sports
lovers, our guests also enjoy access to tennis and golf only minutes away
at
the Mt. Anthony Country Club, while
the adventuresome might opt for a day's
memorable canoeing on the Battenkill. Summer, spring or fall, we look
forward
to making your visit to The Vermonter a memorable experience.
